Tympanoplasty

Tympanoplasty is reconstructive surgery for the tympanic membrane, or eardrum having perforations (holes). Graft material such as temporalis muscle fascia, perichondrium or ear cartilage is used as scaffolding for regeneration of the tympanic membrane. The graft fuses to the tympanic membrane, sealing the perforation. Tympanoplasty can be performed through the ear canal or through an incision behind the ear. The surgery takes approximately 1hr. It can be done under local or general anaesthesia. It is done on an outpatient basis and its success rates in my hands are 95%
